The school actively seeks both local and international strategic
partners and establishes long term collaborations with them to enhance the learning for our staff and pupils. As a West Zone
Centre of Excellence in Robotics, Rulang has established a
sustained partnership with Tufts University, USA, Boston,
Ritsumeikan Academy, Japan and Bibo First Experimental School,
China since 2006, to carry out research projects on how robotics
can enhance teaching and learning. Ritsumeikan and Rulang
jointly presented an Action Research paper at the LEGO
International Conference in 2009 which we co-hosted with LEGO
Education and Science Centre. Through these collaborations, our
staff was able to bring back ideas and resources to enhance our
school-based curriculum such as the Integrated Robotics
Curriculum, our English, Maths, Science and Mother Tongue
curriculum. Rulangnites who visited these schools came away with
a better understanding of Robotics as well as ideas on better
unleashing their robots’ performance.
To expose our pupils to other cultures and learn from others in the international community, Rulang has established twinning programmes with schools like Sekolah Rendah Anggerek Desa in Brunei, Chi Lin Buddhist School in Hong Kong and Fang Qian Experimental School and Jin Qiao Bilingual Experimental School in China. For the staff at Rulang, these twinning programmes has enabled us to exchange school based curriculum and ideas and facilitating a sharing of resources. Through these programmes, Rulangnites experience and interact with pupils from other countries and cultures and develop a global outlook.
Rulang also involves the local community in educating our pupils.
In our leadership framework, all our pupils serve the school and
the community through different forms of community involvement
programmes. Our student leaders have benefited from SWCDC’s YEAH! Junior Programme and have organized and hosted
orientation programmes for kindergarten pupils since 2001. To
promote environmental awareness in our pupils, the school has
worked with PUB, NEA and Ultra-flo to set up a mini water
recycling plant to educate our pupils on water conservation. Some
of our other long standing partners will include Senoko Power
Limited (which set up a mini weather station in our school garden
to teach our pupils about weather patterns and the impact on our
lives) and Jurong Town Council (where our pupils did research
on and named the plants in the Garden of Fragrance) In 2009,
Rulang forged ties with Grace Orchard School which provided
our student leaders with a platform to form lasting friendships
with other pupils and learn what it means to be an inclusive global city. Our student leaders also act as learning peers to the pupils from Grace Orchard School.
