The PE Modular Programme is written with the aim of realizing the PE department vision of building a community of physically competent and mentally robust Rulangnites. The goal is to enable pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. |
Aligned to the Primary Education Review & Implementation Committee’s recommendations on PAL(Programme for Active Learning), the outcomes of the PE modular Programme are scoped in 2 main categories namely GEMS (Grow with Energetic Movements and Shine) and SPLASH (Students Play, Learn and Shine Happily) to ensure pupils acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities: SPLASH - Fundamental Movements, Ball handling and Athletics Skills; GEMS - Skipping /Wushu, Creative Dance and Team Building Activities. In addition, the F2LP (Fit for Life programme) looks into the Functional Fitness,Body Image and Well-being so that pupils understand, experience and appreciate the health benefits that result from physical activity. In 2006, the Health Education Team augmented the PE Modular Programme by creating a Health Education Adventure Trail in the school canteen to enhance pupils’ understanding of holistic health. The trail comprises 7 learning stations in the areas of physical health, cognitive health, emotional health and nutritional health. For example, our canteen stalls also serve as one of the stations in our Trail. Calories of the food sold are reflected in front of the canteen stalls so that pupils makes sound decisions to the type of food they can consume based on daily requirement. Through such innovations, the school has been awarded SAA (Sustain Achievement Award) Physical Fitness for the 7th consecutive year based on the school’s effort in curbing obesity rate below 9% and Physical Fitness Test above the 80% national benchmark. The School clinched the Silver for Cherish Award in 2006 and 2007/8. The biannual Model School Tuckshop was also awarded to Rulang Primary School thrice consecutively since 2005. The school has played a leading role in promoting and developing HHF (Health Holistic Framework) piloted in 2006 and since then, our staff has been sharing best practices with the PE fraternity of other schools through workshops and seminars. |
